Valerie received six Detroit Music Awards while fronting the Foundation of Funk & Steve Somers.  Valerie has toured the U.S., Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Canada. While in Japan, Valerie was featured at Clubs PePelomoco and ViVi.
Returning to the Detroit area, Ms. Barrymore has been a favorite at festivals, clubs and state fairs.

She has appeared with Betty Lavette, Midnight Star, The Contours, The Ojays, Morris Day & the Time and Gladys Knight. Born and raised in Detroit, she attended Michigan Christian College, where she was often chosen as a featured vocalist.

FOUNDATION OF FUNK with VALERIE BARRYMORE is a topnotch, vintage R & B Funk Band. Now, because of Valerie being often called the Queen of Funk, the Band now has an added dimension; thus, the name `Foundation of Funk’ was born. The Band has successfully entertained audiences from major festivals to private parties. The Band has the ability to perform for both listening and dancing audiences with the ability to tailor its performances to meet the demands of the crowd.
